PHOTOS: RDC Excursion

Posted by kp5308 on Tue May 21 17:02:08 2019

First off, I posted to RRPics and for some reason the image size is different. I'm not loading them again so put on your cheater glasses if need be.

Read below for the particulars:

First trip for all 3 Reading & Northern RDC cars. Dutch door riding all day long:

Photo stop at Independence PA in the Lehigh River Gorge:

First runby sequence at Tannery:

Nice thing about this trip is every runby was a double shot! Coming back to pick us up:

Pittston runby:

The 9167 promptly had a mechanical hissy fit which left us sit in Pittston for 3 hours, scrubbing the return trip stops. The RBMN forces did their best to get the show back on the road but such are the issues that excursions with vintage equipment sometimes face:

I rode the front end with Rich from Pittston to Jim Thorpe on the return trip, shooting along the way. CNJ milepost near Penobscot... is the mileage measured from Jersey City or Liberty St. in Manhattan?

White Haven Tunnel on the ex-Lehigh Valley. Note the modification to the roof of the bore LV made to clear TOFC traffic:

Concrete piers for the bridge at Nesquehoning Junction are in, east abutment is done, West abutment formwork is ready for concrete. This will allow RBMN to run their traffic through the Jim Thorpe area without having to change ends:

After we go as far as the NS connection at Packerton I thank Rich for the ride, go back to my seat & fall asleep till we reach Port Clinton. IIRC we were scheduled to go to Packerton Yard but because of the Pittston issue that got cancelled. Oh well:
