Great!That passageway that you speak of allowed passengers to change direction between Bronx-bound and Manhattan-bound #2 and #5 trains as well as use the Third Avenue Elevated line. Once that passageway closed, there was no longer a way to reverse direction. When the MTA reroutes #2 or #5 trains from the local stations, say during track work when all trains run express to/from 180th Street, the MTA will say to riders to change at 149th Street-Grand Concourse, when a couple of decades ago, it would say, change at 149th Street-Third Avenue for the by-passed stations.
