My first ride on the I Love Lucy line was on May 11, 1968. We boarded an Ethel at Kew Gardens and since it pulled in on the local track, I thought, here we go again. When it stopped at 75th Ave., I was about to throw a screaming fit. 8th Ave. Express, my ass. Then we switched to the express track and it got interesting. Those old timers flew to Roosevelt Ave. and then to Queens Plaza. The motorman goosed it as we ripped past 36th St., bull and pinion gears wailing away at F# above middle C. Redemption of sorts for the Ethel. |
