The last of 233 CF7 rebuilds was released for service by the Santa Fe on March 15, 1978. Shortly before entering the Cleburne TX shop the F7 (EMD 1953) that would become the final CF7 #2417 was shot by Charles Stookey at Norman OK in September 1977. For more on the CF7 program click HERE :

Surprisingly the locomotive is still in service in the York PA area but owner Genesee & Wyoming (YorkRail) has been picking up refurbished GP15s as of late to replace the older power inherited from YRC. The 1500 may not be sitting on the York ready track much longer so get on down there if you want some shots:

Also still in service (as of February 16th) is #1504 from the same batch, released as ATSF #2425 in January 1978:

The unit was shot as F7 #261L (EMD 8/51) in Kansas City KS in 1975. Before anybody comments a few of the ATSF F7A units were rushed into service without their Farr stainless steel grillwork. Photo from the Kim Piersol collection:

For the record: ATSF retired #2417 & #2425 in September of 1984 & sold to Rail Services Inc. the next month. Leased to New York Susquehanna & Western until sold to Maryland & Pennsylvania in July of '88 & renumbered 1500/1504 respectively. Acquired by YorkRail along with the assets of the “Ma & Pa in December of 1999. Genesee & Wyoming bought all the assets of YRC in February 2002.

OK gang, post your CF7 pics if ya got 'em!
