I expect Payless's problems stem from the improved economy. Discount name-brand shoe stores like DSW and Famous Footwear are attracting the crowd that used to go to Payless.I used to get shoes at Payless, needed a new pair every year. Nikes, New Balance, etc last around 3 years of daily use. Payless is closing because people started realizing in the long term they don't save any money there. |
