Re: R179 A train

Posted by William A. Padron on Mon Feb 11 14:00:57 2019, in response to Re: R179 A train, posted by Bill Newkirk on Mon Feb 11 13:19:51 2019.

Yes, the R-211's are suppose to go to the "A", and possibly to the "R", replacing the R-46's, plus SIRT replacing the R-44's, and finally the R-32's for good. The R-179's are intended, at this point (subject to change), to replace all the R-42's and some of the R-32's, which may still be needed to provide additional service on any other given lines.

As of now, all 222 R-32's are back stationed at 207th Street and/or Pitkin Yard. All the remaining R-160's on the "C" went back to East New York Yard to continue over on lines based from there. Since the eight-car R-179 units in "C" service is based at 207th/Pitkin at this time, it is possible that MTA NYCT wanted to get the ten-car unit out there from the yard(s) that service and stored them currently.
