Less is still less and I won't launch into how going to back to stainless steel is a step backwards.

Wood -> Carbon Steel -> Stainless Steel -> Aluminum -> Carbon Fiber?

An engineer friend of mine in 1978 convinced me other wise. The Fort Totten wreck of 2009 confirmed that and put aluminum between wood and carbon steel.

The DC metro was supposed to be the rapid transit system of the future with all sorts of cool advanced technologies. Now it's just a slightly fancier NYC Subway. I'm betting someone at Metro got bought off.

The only thing that appeared to be advance was what one saw when stepping into one of the stations. Propulsion control on day one was basic Frank Sprague. Signaling is old and proven technology. The only thing that one could consider as advance was the automation of the acceleration, breaking and doors through years old proven cab signal technology.
