Both systems were conceived as "not the New York Subway" because the locals were intimidated/disgusted by the NYC system. Nearly half a century later, they are experiencing dirtiness, failing infrastructure and fleets, huge waste in procurements, homeless encampmemnts, and all of the other ills of our declining empire.As to carbon fiber, given the incompetence of the Canadian car building firm, I prefer something actually proven and am unimpressed by the extra bells and whistles on BART's "skidoos". BART claims that the fourth generation of ATO computers will allow 30 TPH--still no better than CTA or NYCTA were capable of in the 50s. |
