"Authorities" were originally invented to insulate certain government functions from the entrenched patronage system of the existing structures. Funny thing, incompetent time servers , grafters, and their ilk found their ways in and we have just more of the same.
Blowing it up will only be useful if at the same time we reform how we select our leaders.
