How many subways in the world run with three separate car size specs??The BMT had different car sizes, weight restrictions and third rail pickups. There were the 9 ft. wide El cars mixing with 10 ft wide subway cars. There was el third rail pickup vs. the interborough style pickup. There were weight restrictions that prevented some steel cars from operating on some elevated lines even though these el's had clearance for 10 ft. wide cars. |
