so it appears from some retrospective studies that the design of the water tanks for the steam heat system generated excessive sway at passenger train speeds. It would seem that incompetent design doomed theengines. As to the F40Cs apparently the sloshing water design issues were corrected.
In my paper files I may still have the SP's internal instructions to crews as to speed restrictions.
All of which comes around to the lurking suspicion that Anderson is re-playing the early Amtrak scenario of buying a model which can be sold off (in this case to commuter agencies) when he finishes off the LDTs.
