Scranton Transit discontinues service on the Green Ridge Suburban Line. This is the very last streetcar line in the city. Service at the end is provided by six of the Osgood Bradley Master Units.

IRT and IND Divisions

A limited free transfer point is opened 5th Avenue station of the IRT Flushing Line and the 42nd Street station of the IND 6th Avenue Line. Paper transfers are issued from 5 AM to 12 noon from the IND to the IRT. Transfers from the IRT to the IND are issued from 12 noon to 8 PM. A connecting passageway between the two stations is opened on August 31, 1971 eliminating the part time paper transfer.
