Re: Tour of East Side Abscess New LIRR Terminal Taking Shape Beneath Grand Central Terminal

It is 4 tracks on 1 level from north of the Harlem river until around 57th street.
From 57 - 52 they spread out to 8 tracks across 2 levels, but all in a tight space fitting under Park Ave.
The tracks start going under some buildings (actually buildings were built over the tracks) between 52 and 50,and the main part of the complex really begins at 50th.

In all that space there are no bellmouths, preserved ROW, or even tracks lining up with streets that would facilitate additional tracks into/out of the facility.

While anything is possible with enough time, money, and disruption, I don't see any good way to get a deep tunnel under 63rd and 2nd avenue into the GCT Complex in a way that would not hurt MNRR already constrained capacity.
