Stupid comment of the day. There would still be *a* conductor (after all it's FRA mandated), just not all the collectors nor all the free rides for people who luck out and evade collection.

It also lessens the danger to conductors by removing them from anything involving revenue. No arguing with non-paying customers, no walking around with cash.

Not to mention actually being able to collect fares for suburb-to-suburb travel which for the most part is unofficially free outbound.
