Re: New York City Comptroller Proposes Plan to Integrate Commuter Rail, MTA

Posted by Fine, Howard, and Fine on Thu Oct 18 10:05:59 2018, in response to New York City Comptroller Proposes Plan to Integrate Commuter Rail, MTA, posted by Dave on Tue Oct 16 16:34:07 2018.

I think this is a great vision to increase ridership and effectiveness of the comprehensive (really best-in-USA) transit network.

Think of how much more effective the overall combined system could be if those crowding subway cars for the entire length of a trip, could (for the same price and not a 3x or 4x surcharge) transfer to commuter rail for the vast length of the trip. This would free up capacity in the subway and drive ridership up.

The problem is (as witnessed by many of those on this thread) is that there is 100+ years of artificial balkanization between subway, commuter, and bus systems, that must be overcome.
