I asked a Yugoslavian (now Croatian) post-doc at Penn in 1970 about border crossings. He said it was trivial, with several thousand Slovenians commuting to and from Italy every day for their jobs.People who could afford a VW would arrange for the purchase, take the train to Wolfsburg, pick up their car off the assembly line, and drive it back to Zagreb. I asked him about the border crossing into Bulgaria, and he said nobody went to Bulgaria! |
