The one on Pike Street has been "redeveloped"That's putting it mildly. :-( Pathmark/A&P had a sweetheart deal with that location, but it also turned out there was a loophole where they could sell the lease for lots of $$$. The city may or may not have tried to fight it, but ultimately there was nothing that could be done. Add in the damage caused by Sandy, and the store was doomed. In the end, Pathmark/A&P still went bankrupt. I found it odd, though, that the side building (which used to be the Pathmark drugstore and some other leased space) not only has been empty for years, it hasn't been demolished in the latest development. The residents of that development ("1 Manhattan Square") will surely enjoy the ambience of Manhattan Bidge subway trains. |
