The Manhattan Mall entrance is a vestige of Gimbel's but the passageway also provided access to the Gimbel's basement level as well, west of the current Manhattan Mall access. In fact, I distinctly remember wall signs where the IRT 7th Ave. uptown local platform is still located that said "Broadway Subway - Hudson Tunnels - Gimbel Brothers Store." |
