"They are not going to run DM trains rather than MU's"What makes you so sure? I don't know about NJT but at Metro-North it was done (when I was there) quite often. At MN, the fleet mgt office used to put out a"turn sheet" which showed what inbound train "turned" for the outbound & vice versa, On that sheet was the # of cars called for in the consist, the type of equiptment (M with appropriate # for electric, PP for push-pull or CD for the Shoreliner cars with center doors). On several trains in electric territory, being it 3d rail or under wire, a PP or CD was the called for equiptment as per the "turn sheet". "They have a tight schedule to keep." LIRR schedules, like every other transit agency schedule in the country, are padded. If a DM was to run in place of an MU & there were no complications, it would arrive within the 5 minute tardiness threshold, in other words, according to the schedule, "on time" |
