Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Fri Sep 21 12:08:52 2018 2019 Subway Calendar I just received my copy of the 2019 Subway Calendar. Our friend Bill Newkirk has one again done an excellent job of assembling a wide and varied collection of subway photographs. The front cover is quintessential IRT with a Lo-V and an R-22 at 96th Street and Broadway. With so many good choices it’s hard to select a favorite but this year I would chose the entry for September. We see a pair of IRT Lo-V’s operating on the BMT Culver Line. These cars were fitted flanges at the floor level to bridge the gap between the nine foot wide IRT cars and the BMT platforms. The use of Lo-V’s on the BMT only lasted for about a year so photos are scarce. The photo for September presents one of the clearest pictures that I have ever seen of the flanges. Honorable mention should go to the May entry. It features a train of R-9 turning from the Liberty Avenue line onto the Rockaway line. The real interest is the street scene below of an ancient gasoline pump and some equally ancient delivery truck. What’s your favorite? Thank again Bill Larry, RedbirdR33 |
