I won't post the answer until much later today but visualize what the vertical radius actually is. It's the radius of the curve formed as the track changes vertal elevation.

Okay, if I've done my sums correctly, an R68 would bottom out on a sustained vertical radius of about 26'6", and an R142 at about 17'6". Something tells me the MTA wouldn't like the idea of getting anywhere near that kind of vertical radius.
