Yeah, if one takes the proposal literally, there are a dozen such issues.There actually is a railbike apparatus, it works on standard rails. It would obviously be useless once off the tracks. But in any case, with the WMATA shut down, the subway rails can go and be replaced with thinner bike rails or, more practically, bikeways of to-be-determined design, 2 or 3 wide per trackway. That 30mph tailwind (to be created by large fans) would make for a fast, low-sweat ride... except that my proposal is a joke. But less of a joke than paying people $100K/yr to fake inspections and waltz out of their train without setting the parking brake. |
