I haven’t seen any documentation that indicates that any part of the subway infrastructure existed west (RR north) of the west end of the original terminal at 6 Av/14 St. AFAIK the 2 tks ended in bumping blocks and the tunnel infrastructure ended there also. The trains switched back on a diamond Xover immediately east of 6 Av station. What tends to bear this out is the original signal chaining which started with the lowest number at the west end of 6 Ave. The signal numbers display tk Q1 and Q2 from 6 Ave east whereas immediately west of 6 Av the signal numbers display Q1W and Q2W indicating that there was no infrastructure west of 6 Av prior to its extension to 8 Av. If the middle tk had been there originally, the “W” suffix would only have appeared on the signals in the immediate area of 8 Av station and not from the west end of 6 Ave. |
