Tuscarora Almanac – July 11, 1936 – The Book of First Runs

The Triborough Bridge connecting Manhattan, The Bronx and Queens opens today. A new bus route known as Route TB Triboro Bridge Line begins service as well. There are actually two routes. One runs between East 125th Street-Lexington Avenue, Manhattan and 37th Street-24th Avenue, Astoria. The second route to Astoria runs from East 138th Street-Southern Boulevard, The Bronx. A third route between Manhattan and Ward’s Island will not begin May 15, 1937.

Weekday “F” trains will terminate at Second Avenue instead of Broadway-Lafayette Street. They will operate over the local tracks from West 4th Street south. This extension is being done to permit the express track south of Broadway-Lafayette Street to be connected into the Chrystie Street Subway. Normal service will resume on August 30.

This is the last day of PM rush hour skip - stop service on the BMT Jamaica Line. "KK" and "QJ" trains will continue to operate to 168 Street but will now make all stops.

The last Comet I-B ("Comarrow") push-pull conversion cars operate in passenger service on NJ Transit, with car 5227 on train 1152 (Bergen Line) and 5232 and 5163 on 1612 (Pascack Valley Line), in mixed trains with former EL/NJDOT Comet I equipment. Built by St. Louis Car in 1968 as PRR MP85E6 "Arrow I" electric MUs purchased by New Jersey Department of Transportation for high speed Northeast Corridor service between New York and Trenton, these were among the few all stainless cars built by St. Louis Car along with SEPTA's SIlverliner IIIs (unlike the R38-R44 series built with carbon-based alloy with external stainless sheetmetal). The Arrow I cars were mothballed in 1979-80 and converted to push-pull cabs and trailer coaches by Morrison Knudsen in 1987-1988. The State of California (Caltrans) purchased 14 cars in 2008 that were rebuilt in 2013-14 and now operate on the San Joaquin line.
