Again, because the government was regulating them out of existence. The federal government and states were putting onerous tax burdens on them at the same time they were subsidizing the roads and airports. The reason why we didn't have widespread private sector high-speed rail beginning in the 60s (we had the technology back then) was exactly due to government intervention. |
