Was at 103 St waiting for a 1 lately, and noticed that the north end of the station (the 1940s extension) has no pillars, columns, or walls whatsoever over the tracks. This is a bit unusual - were there formerly switches here? The Broadway (Boulevard) Line was planned as a two track subway. After construction had begun it was decided to change it into a three track line. There was a considerable amount of re-construction. A third track was added at 103rd Street to the east of the original two track. Consequently a new wall and ceiling had to be carved out of the east wall. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
