FOTOS - Hartford Line

Posted by Fred G on Sun Jun 17 16:37:40 2018

Prior to opening day, I had a chance to photograph the Hartford Line during its testing/rehearsal period prior to the grand opening yesterday 06-16-18.

They also pressed McGinness geep 6696 into service although it will likely stay on Shore Line East until it too is rebuilt and repainted:

Leaving Hartford with a set of SLE coaches. After moonlighting on the Hartford, it had to return to SLE.

Newington Junction. This is part of the stretch where Amtrak trains can run at 110 mph.

At rest at Hartford Yard, where the NHV to HFD trains lay up before heading south again.

Some fun facts:

The newly painted engines are nicknamed "Coke Zero"
The newly wrapped coaches are ex MBTA MBB coaches, and are leased by CT
Some of the leased coaches have bathrooms but since they are not ADA compliant, the bathrooms can't be used until they are brought up to code, even though the DOT has promised to do so by next year.
The MBTA coaches are rated for top speed of 80 mph but Amtrak can go faster as they're upped the speed limit in spots so Amtrak can go 110.
