Today (6/16/18) was the first day of CTrail Hartford service. It was also my first time heading north after New Haven.
The majority of service stops at New Haven Union, State Street, Wallingford, Meriden, Berlin, and Hartford, with some continuing to Windsor, Windsor Locks, and Springfield.
I had to get up at 3:30 to leave Astoria, catch the shuttle bus, take the 7, and get to GCT, where I arrived at about 4:45. BUT, the station was closed, and they let people in only around 5:20, which can be stressful, considering my train was supposed to leave at 5:30. I wasn’t even aware GCT closed, because I was early last time I went to NH and no one had closed it.
Consists were:
(S)-6694-526-516-501-1520-(N)
(S)-6695-509-527-505-1509-(N)
The scene at New Haven Union Station. This is the 8 AM (6400) out of New Haven, with cab #1520 leading the way.
Rode 6400 all the way to Springfield, filming the entire route out of the window of my seat.
The 6400 set became the 6401 out of Springfield, with #6694 leading. It also meant that I could record the back RFW the entire trip, which I did (and at some point I will be posting it). It became somewhat of a pain, because the train became very crowded and the door of the cab had to be used a couple of times to let people in and out. The 6401 was supposed to arrive at 11:29 in New Haven, but instead came at 11:50, which was the time it should have left New Haven as the 6454 to Hartford, because of all the boarding. So it left late.
These are shots on the way to Meriden.
The arrival of 6453 at Meriden.
A quick hop-off, hop-back-on-again at Wallingford.
Got off at State Street and wandered around New Haven for an hour waiting for 6456.
Got off at Wallingford for one last ride to New Haven on the 6457, which arrived at Wallingford not at 2:55 as scheduled, but at 3:15.
My ride home.
