It’’s quite possible but it really wasn’t needed since the BMT functioned perfectly well with both subway and el equipment using el type 3rd rail. Considering the IRT was a cheaper outfit than the BMT it’s surprising that it went to the expense of additional 3rd rail when it wasn’t needed.
