I love that part of the Caro book when he discusses how FDR stopped the bridge project and the celebration that took place afterward. Caro states that if the park supporters had really considered what had happened, they would not have thrown a party but instead held a wake. As Caro says (and I am paraphrasing):"It wasn't that they had convinced the President to halt the project - it was that it had taken the President to stop it." |
