I believe that the upper level, where the express tracks are, was to have been a full mezzanine for a Nostrand Ave local stop. That mezzanine probably would have connected to this Bedford Ave line, had it been built. If I am not mistaken, there is provision, on the lower level, for the original local tracks on either side of the current ones, had the station been on one level. It would have been a 4 track local station with 2 side platforms, connecting to an upstairs mezzanine. The contractors started to tunnel under Nostrand/Fulton in Feb of 1931. The Brooklyn Eagle has photos of this excavation in its Feb 15th, 1931 edition. |
