I can’t say for sure when they were actually removed, but when I went there with George Abere in 1962, the tracks, signals and stop arms were still there although the switches had been removed. The tunnels also ended in mounds of earth floor to ceiling. When we returned after we were both trainmasters in 1983, the tracks had been removed and the cinder block walls often referred to, and erroneously mentioned as being under Pitkin Ave, had been put in place. Oddly, the signals were still in place although the lenses were either missing or broken. |
