Because they were assembled in 3 car sets, they used the 1200s which had only A cars and no Bs. As for the use of R-38s, during one of the Amtrak strikes when LIRR trains couldn’t operate into Penn, full 600 ft trains of whatever was available were used on the JFK and that included some R-38s. I also recall that during that time, all the cars of the train opened up but I don’t recall if the premium fare was collected or not. |
