Yes, Wanamaker's was a gigantic Dept Store back in the day, even outdoing Macy*s. Many bus routes terminated there. Fifth Svenue Coach used Wanaaker Terminal on their destination signs. Wanamaker Place still exists today. The store closed in 1954, after customers moved uptown, and Astor Place lost its glamour. The fire occurred in 1956, after the stroe was vacant |
