I am surprised that little attention has been paid (so far) to the routing of this line in the Jerusalem area. As I understand it, the line goes outside the boundaries of the "Green Line" (internationally recognized borders of Israel) in some places. So any "two-state solution" will now have to modify those borders to keep the rail line within the borders of Israel, almost like the Gadsden Purchase was made to get the proposed route of the Southern Pacific within the boundaries of the U.S. Of course, such a "solution" becomes more and more unlikely every day anyway, but little attention has been paid to this rail line as a factor. It's an impressive achievement anyway. |
