There weren’t enough C types to provide full service on the Fulton St el so gate cars had to be used to make full service. As for the gap, gate cars on Myrtle and Lex operating on parts of their lines that they shared with steel subway cars had the same problem. With the gate cars, however, the C/Rs were right there to assist passengers who might have difficulty with the gaps. As for gate cars lasting a long time, they operated on Myrtle until 1958 when the Qs were transferred there. |
