Yep, it was the South Side RR. Here is an exhaustive history of the South Side. There are plenty of disputes with property owners detailed, but not one word about any covenant requiring that trains be run there in perpetuity.BTW, the 1980 amendment to the LIRR charter puts the lie to the many statements that the LIRR is the oldest RR still runing under its original name and charter. Name yes, charter no. |
