I was attending Queens College that year and it was the only branch of the City University that opened during the strike and I had to get there because it was also finals week. Going to school I took a taxi but coming home I took advantage of the special bus service that the college was running to both the Jamaica and Flushing stations of the LIRR. Depending on which bus came first. I would go to either Flushing or Jamaica and take the LIRR to Penn Station. I lived in Wash Hts at the time so when I got to Penn I walked to Port Auth Bus term, took whatever bus was going to the GWB and changed for a bus to the GWB Bus Terminal which was only a short walk to my apartment. I probably could have gone to school the same way in the reverse direction but since it was finals week I doin’t want to take the chance being late so I took the taxis. If it had just been a week of normal classes I probably would have cut but fortunately I didn't have exams every day during the strike so it wasn’t so bad. |
