This would take the city out of the equation (at least for transportation, re: BQX) allowing the state to undermine De Blasio and gain the support of the real estate interests who want to build out Red Hook.Tying in a Port Authority move from Atlantic Terminal is quite shrewd too. The only issue is that the piers along Buttermilk Channel are the deepest natural channels in the city - that's why the QM2 ties up there. It'll take a lot of dredging to get water that deep at the Army terminal. Maybe they'll leave the cruise terminal alone and only relocate the container operations. |
