Times Square, 1938, looking south. |
|
Posted by Joe on Sun Dec 31 12:55:30 2017 It's New Year's Eve, so I tried to find photos of Times Square on the internet. The one linked below, dated January 1938, has several items of interest. The B-Broadway line has not yet received the 500's, the center-exit cars. The 300 moving north has not yet received the cream V above the headlight. The front is a solid TARS red. The V, I believe, predated WW2, so it was not a victory symbol, merely a design change that is a good clue in photos. Northbound on Seventh Avenue, is that a Yellow Coach? It's in front of a Child's restaurant offering 60-cent dinners. Our parents brought us on the IRT to Times Square for New Year's Eve, 1950. Streetcars were gone a few years. Let's see if the link works: |
