Yes, there's no real point in building at wider gauge now, the value of standardization is greater.BUT, I'll betcha MNR at Spuyten Dyvil would have made it around the turn witch a 6' gauge (if the rails were tied down well), same for Frankford. Also, they wouldn't need well cars + their air drag for double stacks, that's a technical issue.
