There was a different feel of the cars that one could tell, too.To me, it had something to do with the floor. The 46s felt more "solid"...if that's how you could describe it,compaired to the flooring of the 44s...like there was something missing that should be there. The 46s even looked better structurally...neater lines... Better welds. I guess since the 44s were the first of its type built by St Louis Car,they continued a method that worked for them, LAHT Steel frame with Stainless Steel shell...might have some thing to do with the issues developed further along. Sad to see all mainline cars go, however. Ain't nothing like a little elbow grease to keep something in good shape. |
