But they still functioned as separate railroads, down to Newark and Hoboken Divisions, and to start with each side with their own equipment. They didn't get blended until Midtown Direct about 25 years after Conrail.Right until The Comet-I's came along in 1970, they generally kept the Stillwells on the ex-Erie lines and Boonton cars on the ex Lackawanna lines, even though the EL merger was 10 - 12 years prior. and they all ran out of Hoboken. |
