I found out firsthand on May 7, 1967. We were on the n/b platform at 81st St. when a rumble grew to a roar, then a prewar D ripped past on the express track, gears wailing away at F# above middle C. It wasn't long after that when a blur of teal and white thundered past. It was an R-10 Abbott, decked out in the racing stripe scheme. |
