It includes a public park where on display is the private rail car Denali, used by President Warren Harding on his trip to Alaska in 1923 to drive the Golden Spike for the Alaska RRHistorical trivia: Harding toured western Canada after leaving Alaska, and became sick while playing golf in Vancouver. In retrospect, it was almost certainly a heart attack, and Harding nearly became the only present or former president to die outside the United States. He died a few days later in San Francisco. |
