The May 6, 1937 issue of Engineering News-Record showed a cross-section of the 34th Street station of the Sixth Avenue line as part of an article of the complexities of building that leg of the IND network. By then, the sidewalls' total thickness (from the face of the supporting steel frame to the sidewall surface) was 7½" - 2" for the foundation layer, 5½" finishing layer. (They had other such diagrams in that article - cross-sections of the tracks in-between the 42nd Street and 47th-50th Street - Rockefeller Center stations, cross-section of the transitions north of that station, etc.) |
