In the 2nd 3rd & 5th photos, it doesn't look like destination sign boxes were installed yet.

I've noticed that too. Jeff Rosen commented on no ceiling fans.

Since this was the first unit, the BMT probably directed Pressed Steel to install ceiling fans and re-design the front.
Check out the photo below. The route & destination sign box was not mid car like in later units. It's located in the window to the left of the car number.
