They went essentially because they were a small fleet and getting rid of them removed an entire maintenance class from a TA that wasn't marvelous in the maintenance department. They were also the last articulated fleet. Yet they were sturdy and had an excellent maintenance record, especially for their age.The R27/30s enabled the TA to get rid of all the oddballs including MS, Bluebird and Zephyr, SIRT cars and the Lo-Vs with the aprons. The R32s replaced the D-Types. |
