I wonder why people thought converting from electricity to diesel was "progress"Because progressives told them so, and progressives also wanted total control of all street infrastructure; the progressives in government weren't getting tax money from street rails and electrification infrastructure (i.e. once they took it over from private operators), but they were getting it from gasoline and diesel fuel taxes, which they promptly absconded to spend on "social programs" (i.e. de-facto vote-buying schemes et al). |
