When I was a kid in 1954 my parents with me drove to the Catskills for our annual summer holiday. The route. The GW Bridge to route 4 to route 17. What I remember the high light of the trip was a stop at something called the Red Apple rest. We stayed on route 17, the route 17 before the modern route 17 known as the Quickway. In every town, there was a traffic light. What a horror that was.
